Abstract

A significant role for multigenetic predisposition in the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN) coheres with considerable variation in the incidence and prevalence of DN. Some of the genes that are likely involved in the development of diabetic nephropathy also control blood pressure, familial hyperlipidemia, familial hypertension, and other cardiovascular illnesses. The insertion/deletion polymorphism in the angiotensin-converting enzyme gene, the G/T polymorphism in the glucose transporter 1 gene, the G/T (894) polymorphism, and the T/C (-786) polymorphism in the eNOS gene were all examined in three groups of patients with diabetes mellitus to see if they were associated with diabetic nephropathy, non-diabetic nephropathy.
